Mueller filing mistakenly names witnesses in Manafort case

June 14 (UPI) -- The names of two potential witnesses in the case against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort were inadvertently disclosed in a court filing by special counsel Robert Mueller.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson ordered Mueller's team this week to furnish a list of potential witnesses to Manafort's team by Friday. Mueller's office provided them to the court Wednesday, but neglected to redact the names of two.

The judge had also requested the names of others Manafort is accused of trying to influence, which led to new witness tampering charges last week.

Unsealed court documents filed Wednesday showed several names of potential witnesses, including two prosecutors say Manafort and associate Konstantin Kilimnik pressured to change their story before trial.

The named witnesses are former journalists who worked on public relations for Manafort.

Mueller's office refiled the documents once the error was discovered. The names are redacted in the second version.

Prosecutors say the former journalists were contacted by Manafort and Kilimnik after campaign deputy Rick Gates flipped to a guilty plea in February. Prosecutors said at the time they knew about foreign lobbying efforts by Manafort that were hidden from federal investigators.

A memo received by Manafort was also attached to the court documents, which describes an effort prosecutors say he, Friedman and Sager led in 2012 for Ukrainian clients to bring European politicians together to lobby U.S. lawmakers.

Manafort is free on bail, which prosecutors have asked Jackson to revoke. A decision on that request is expected Friday.
