June 4 (UPI) -- Scottsdale, Ariz., police said Monday that a suspect in the slaying of a forensic psychologist and two paralegals committed suicide as police closed in on him.
A robot was sent into the suspect's room at an extended-stay hotel on Monday morning. Police heard shots fired before the suspect was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Phoenix police spokesman Sgt. Vince Lewis said.
Lewis added that no shots were fired by police. The suspect's name had not been released Monday morning.
Police also declined to comment on how several slayings in the Scottsdale area may be connected. Steven Pitt, a forensic psychologist who consulted on the JonBenet Ramsey murder investigation, among other high-profile cases, was shot to death outside his office on Thursday. Witnesses said they heard a loud argument followed by gunshots before the shooter fled.
On Friday, paralegals Veleria Sharp and Laura Anderson were shot while at work at a downtown Scottsdale law firm. On Monday, police confirmed that evidence at another murder scene is linked to the prior attacks. Psychologist Marshall Levine was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound on Saturday in his office.
