June 1 (UPI) -- Former President Bill Clinton said Friday he is unsure if Russia meddled in the 2016 election.

Clinton made the remark in a clip from an interview with CBS This Morning to promote The President is Missing, a novel he co-authored with James Patterson.

"We got a real serious problem with cyberterrorism," Clinton said during the interview. "They could go way beyond fixing the elections. Those problems would happen faster if we allow our elections to continue to be tampered with by others."

When asked directly if he thought the 2016 presidential election -- in which his wife, former Sen. Hillary Clinton, ran against Donald Trump -- was tampered with, Clinton said, "I don't know."

Another clip from the interview shows Bill Clinton addressing New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand's assertion that he should have resigned from office over his affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky and his attempts to cover it up.

"You have to ... really ignore what the context was," he said about Gillibrand. "But, you know, she's living in a different context. And she did it for different reasons. So, I -- but I just disagree with her."

U.S. intelligence agencies announced in October that they agree Moscow was responsible for hacking Democratic National Committee computers, as well as those of other Democratic figures and organizations.

What role, if any, U.S. President Donald Trump or his campaign team played in the alleged interference has prompted numerous investigations, which Trump has labeled a "witch hunt."

Bill Clinton's full interview will air Sunday.
