May 23 (UPI) -- White House senior adviser and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, was granted permanent White House security clearance, his lawyer confirmed Wednesday.

Kushner's clearance was restored on a permanent basis after he submitted an application which was followed by an official review, his attorney Abbe Lowell told Politico.

"Throughout this process, Mr. Kushner has continued to work on a number of foreign policy and domestic issues with no interruption. And finally, having completed all of these processes, he is looking forward to continuing to do the work the president has asked him to do," Lowell said.

Lowell said Kushner received permanent clearance following an interview with special counsel Robert Mueller, in which he "answered all questions asked and did whatever he could to expedite the conclusion" of the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Lowell added the investigation didn't cause a delay in Kushner receiving clearance and White House officials said the lengthy review process is common for a government official like Kushner with a complicated financial history and many foreign contacts, according to The New York Times.

The permanent clearance allows Kushner to view guarded White House information including Trump's daily intelligence briefing and intelligence on Israelis and Palestinians.

Kushner and all other White House aides working at the Top Secret/sensitive compartmented information level had their interim clearance stripped in February in the midst of an overhaul of how security clearances are handled at the White House following staff secretary Rob Porter's resignation.
