New documents detail aftermath, gunman interactions in Vegas shooting

May 17 (UPI) -- New police documents are shedding more light on the shooting attack that killed 58 people in Las Vegas last fall -- including an interaction between the gunman and a hotel housekeeper.

The records were released Wednesday by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.

According to the records, shooter Stephen Paddock had made a Mandalay Bay housekeeper uneasy during his stay there.

The woman said once when she was cleaning his room, Paddock gave her an uneasy feeling.

"He [kept] staring at me," she told police.

She added that Paddock continued to watch her as she cleaned the room, even after he'd ordered room service. She also said she thought it strange he had more than five pieces of luggage in the room.

Other witnesses told police Paddock came off as an introvert who only discussed gambling and traveling -- but never politics, religion or guns. He was described similarly by employees at multiple casinos he'd visited.

Fans at the Route 91 country music festival, which had been staged directly below Paddock's room, said in the documents they heard gunshots that sounded like firecrackers -- and one man said he tried to run away during breaks in gunfire.

"On the third round of shots is when ... I got hit running, right in the back," he said, noting that someone carried him to an ambulance.

Another witness said he remembers a police officer tossing injured victims into the bed of a pickup truck. Others recalled people pressed up against railings, stuck on fences and huddled beneath the music stage as bullets sprayed the crowd.

The new documents came weeks after Las Vegas police released dramatic body camera footage taken as they first arrived at the hotel.

Authorities are still trying to determine a motive for Paddock, who shot himself in the hotel room before police could apprehend him.
