May 17 (UPI) -- The former president of Temple University's suspended Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity has been arrested on sexual assault charges, Philadelphia authorities said.
Investigators said Ari Goldstein was arrested Wednesday in connection with an investigation into the fraternity that began several weeks ago. The charges, which include attempted rape, indecent assault and witness intimidation, stem from an incident in February.
The fraternity was suspended last month as a part of a months-long investigation into sexual misconduct, underage drinking and drug use. Goldstein, 21, was removed as president when the investigation began.
"We are, obviously, deeply troubled by the charges leveled at this young man," Jonathan Pierce, a spokesman for Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, told WPVI-TV. "We believe in due process but there is clearly no place for this behavior in our organization and, if proven true, I would expect the individual to be permanently expelled from our fraternity."

At least two reports of sexual assault involve the fraternity, including one from March.
In one case from March, a 19-year-old woman said she was assaulted.
"She was given several drinks by members of the fraternity," Philadelphia Police Capt. Mark Burgmann said last month. "She says she became dizzy and disoriented, and that's the last thing she remembered until she woke up in bed with one of the members of the fraternity."
A preliminary hearing for Goldstein is scheduled for May 31. He is being held on $200,000 bail.
It's the second sexual assault case tied to university recently. Temple alumnus Bill Cosby was convicted last month for sexually assaulting a former school employee.
