Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The FBI joined the search for a missing 5-year-old Kansas boy who was last seen in his bedroom Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Investigators said they have searched the family home, the neighborhood and 216-acre Chisholm Creek Park for Lucas Hernandez. So far, police say they have found no evidence that the boy was abducted.
Lucas' 26-year-old stepmother told police he was last seen around 3 p.m. Saturday. The boy lives with his father, but not his biological mother.
"It's cold out. We don't know where he is. We want him home safely," Hernandez's cousin, Kristin Edson, said.
"It was devastating. You're hollering his name up and down the street. Telling him it's okay to come out. It's very hard to do. You never think it would happen to you until it happens and you just pray it never does."
Officials said agents of the FBI have joined the search for the child.
Some of Lucas' relatives said they have previously expressed concerns about the boy's welfare to the Kansas Department for Children and Families.
"We share the public's concern regarding Lucas Hernandez," Theresa Freed of the Kansas DCF said in an email, but added that privacy laws bar officials from detailing what was contained in past reports.
"In the event the agency has information, we will share it with law enforcement, assisting them as requested. The Kansas Department for Children and Families is legally prohibited from publicly discussing its possible history with this family."
