Jan. 18 (UPI) -- After reviewing 238 proposals from across the United States, Canada and Mexico, Amazon on Thursday announced 20 locations as finalists for the company's second headquarters.

The new project will bring an estimated 50,000 jobs and more than $5 billion in investments to the city where it opens. It will be a full headquarters like the company's first one in Seattle, according to a news release.

Cities and areas that made the cut are Atlanta, Ga., Austin, Texas, Boston, Mass., Chicago, Ill., Columbus, Ohio, Dallas, Texas, Denver, Colo., Indianapolis, Ind., Los Angeles, Calif., Miami, Fla., Montgomery County, Md., Nashville, Tenn., Newark, N.J., New York City, N.Y., Northern Virginia, Va., Philadelphia, Pa., Pittsburgh, Pa., Raleigh, N.C., Washington D.C. and Toronto, Ontario.

"Thank you to all 238 communities that submitted proposals. Getting from 238 to 20 was very tough - all the proposals showed tremendous enthusiasm and creativity," company spokeswoman Holly Sullivan said in a statement. "Through this process we learned about many new communities across North America that we will consider as locations for future infrastructure investment and job creation."

The next step will include Amazon working with each candidate to dive deeper into the proposals, request more information and evaluate the location's feasibility. A final decision will be made later this year.

Construction of the new headquarters, Amazon HQ2, will create tens of thousands of additional jobs and tens of billions of dollars in additional investment around the community, according to the release.
