Nov. 23 (UPI) -- Vermont State Police are looking for a suspect who burglarized a maple syrup factory and destroyed several barrels with an ax.

"They just went through and trashed it, basically," Cindy Mayer, who operates the building with her husband Alan, told the Burlington Free Press.

According to VSP, the suspect forced his or her way into the Bristol, Vt. maple sugar building on Monday, stole several gallon jugs of maple syrup and then vandalized the sugar equipment.

Mayer said the suspect made off with about 12 gallons of syrup, valued at about $40 each. But the suspect also punctured several maple syrup barrels, which caused 300 gallons to leak out.

"That's nearly an entire season's worth -- an entire crop -- it's on the floor over there," she said.
