Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Candy maker GKI Foods and its distributor First Source are voluntarily recalling dark chocolate products sold in supermarkets and convenience store chains in 27 states because of a mistake in labeling.

The chocolates contain milk, which wasn't declared on the labels by GKI Foods, the packager.

"People who have an allergy or sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product," the Food and Drug Administration said.

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported of the products sold from Jan. 1, 2016, until the recall.

The products were sold in packages as well as in grocery bulk bins.

Consumers can return them to the store of purchase for a refund.

The recalled packaged products were sold at Wegmans, Circle K, Alpine Valley and Tops. As an extension of the recall Meijer food stores announced it is voluntarily recalling all lots and all codes of the products.

The bin items were sold at Wegmans, Giant Food Store, Martin's Food Market, Stop N Shop, Dryden Food Market, New Brighton Food Land, Punxsutawney Country Market and Trumansburg Shur Save. Products also were sold in Canada at Mac's Convenient Stores and Circle K.
