Oct. 4 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed Wednesday in a church parking lot near Minneapolis, killing the pilot, police said.
Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesman Patrick Hogan told KARE-TV in Minneapolis that an experimental aircraft crashed in the parking lot of Resurrection Life Church in Eden Prairie, Minn.
The pilot reported a fire aboard the aircraft shortly after taking off from Flying Cloud Airport. The plane crashed about 2 1/2 miles from the airport.
The pilot was the only person on board. There were no injuries reported on the ground.
Federal Aviation Administration records indicate the plane was amateur built and had one engine.
The FAA, National Transportation Safety Board, Minnesota State Patrol and Eden Prairie police were expected to investigate.
