Sept. 29 (UPI) -- Morgan Geyser, one of two girls involved in Wisconsin's "Slender Man" stabbing of a young classmate, will plead guilty as part of a deal that will allow her to avoid jail time.

The agreement, announced on Friday, will give doctors the ability to evaluate Geyser and sentence the 15-year-old girl to a state hospital, officials said.

Anissa Weier, who stood trial earlier this month, was acquitted by reason of mental illness or insanity. Geyser has been diagnosed with early-onset schizophrenia, which will factor into her guilty plea.

Geyser, who was 12 at the time her classmate was stabbed, was supposed to go to trial next month on a charge of attempted murder.

Friday's plea brings the three-year case to an end.

Prosecutors said Geyser and Weier lured a classmate into the woods in 2014, stabbed her and left her to die. The girl survived the attack.

The girls were charged as adults due to the severity of the crime and because prosecutors said they understood the crime, and the charges.

According to prosecutors, the girls attacked their classmate due to an infatuation with a fictional Internet character they dubbed "Slender Man" -- who they believed threatened their families. Geyser and Weier said they were acting as his servants -- and that if they killed their classmate, their families would be safe.
