Poll: Defense chief James Mattis most popular in Trump Cabinet

Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A Politico/Morning Consult poll released Wednesday found Defense Secretary James Mattis to be the most popular person in President Donald Trump's Cabinet.

The poll was conducted from Sept. 22 through Sept. 24. among nearly 2,000 registered voters.

The survey asked respondents if they had a "favorable or unfavorable impression" for each of the cabinet members.

The poll revealed that Mattis had a 40 percent favorable and 20 percent unfavorable rating --ahead of White House chief of staff John Kelly by 1 percent.

The least favorable was Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, with 40 percent disapproval.

Also among the least favorable were Attorney General Jeff Sessions (34 percent), Energy Secretary Rick Perry (30 percent) and Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin (26 percent).

Ryan Zinke, Trump's interior secretary, appears to struggle with name recognition. Thirty-four percent said they hadn't heard of him.

The margin or error is 2 percentage points.
