Sept. 19 (UPI) -- At least three arrests were made during a protest at Georgia Tech University Monday night in response to the fatal police shooting of a student who allegedly had a knife.

Students gathered on the Atlanta campus to hold a vigil for Scout Schultz, who was shot by a campus officer Sunday. Afterward, a group of about 50 protesters marched to the Georgia Tech Police Department, a school spokesperson said.

The school said some violence broke out during the protest.

"One police vehicle was damaged and two officers suffered minor injuries. One officer was transported to Grady Hospital with minor injuries," the university said in a statement.

Videos posted to social media showed a police car engulfed in flames during the protest.

Three people were arrested and charged with inciting a riot and battery to a police officer.

NPR reporter Stephen Fowler said the protesters were part of the group that participated in the candlelight vigil.

"This was completely different group of people than the GT vigil for Scout Schultz. These were mainly masked antifa," he tweeted.

Bystander Sebastian Gonzales, 20, told BuzzFeed News a similar observation.

"I didn't see any students damaging cars," he said. "It looked like there were a bunch of non-students there."

Schultz died Sunday after he reportedly called police on himself, informing 911 of a white man with blonde hair holding a knife and possible armed with a gun. Police arrived on the scene and attempted to get Schultz to drop his knife, but he refused.

After Schultz was shot, the knife turned out to be a flip-open, multi-tool with a small blade. He did not have a gun.
