Sept. 12 (UPI) -- Surveillance video captured the crash-landing of a small plane in a parking lot near an airport in Plainville, Conn., and the pilot walked away relatively unharmed.
The fixed-wing, single-engine Cessna 172 came in low over the parking lot near runway 2 of Robertson Field Airport, striking the top of the tree, flipping over and coming to rest, wheels down, on the asphalt, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The pilot, Manfred Forst, 79, walked away from the incident Monday and was taken to the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain with minor injuries, Plainville police said.
At 11:24 a.m. Monday, officers found the 1981 Cessna had crashed into a parking lot of Carling Technologies, which is adjacent to Roberston Field Airport.
"I was very fortunate I got out of it without any real injuries," Forst told NBC Connecticut. "I'm just so thankful."
The FAA is investigating the crash.
"I was sitting down at the end of the parking lot here, looked up because I heard the plane," David Thayer, of Southington, told WFSB-TV. "Saw it going directly across probably 200 yards from where I was sitting, knew it was going the wrong way obviously. He was going very slow, so I started walking briskly up here real fast and I heard the bang and knew that he went down."
