Aug. 15 (UPI) -- The Pentagon identified the two U.S. soldiers who died Sunday after sustaining injuries during combat operations in Iraq.

The soldiers who died were identified as Sgt. Roshain Euvince Brooks, 30, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Spc. Allen Levi Stigler Jr., 22, of Arlington, Texas. Both soldiers were assigned to 2nd Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.

Five other U.S. soldiers were injured during the combat operations and the Pentagon said the deaths and injuries were "not due to enemy contact."

The Defense Department added Monday that the incident remains under investigation.

Including Sunday's deaths, the Pentagon's Operation Inherent Resolve mission in Iraq has resulted in 43 U.S. soldier fatalities since the mission began in 2014.
