Aug. 2 (UPI) -- White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave a press briefing Wednesday afternoon.
Since the last briefing Tuesday, President Donald Trump signed into law stronger sanctions against Russia, North Korea and Iran. In the signing statement, Trump said the bill encroaches on presidential authority and may harm the United States' ability to work with allies on how to deal with Russia. But the Congress overwhelmingly approved the bill, making it veto-proof.
The U.S. Air Force test launched an intercontinental ballistic missile in California after a similar missile test by North Korea last week.
The U.S. Senate confirmed Christoper Wray as the new FBI director.
The New York Times reported the U.S. Department of Justice plans to investigate and sue universities if its civil rights division deems white applicants were discriminated against due to affirmative action.
Also, the White House was said to be considering sanctions on Venezuela's oil in wake of President Nicolas Maduro's effort to consolidate power. The U.S. Treasury Department earlier this week placed sanctions on Maduro.
