June 26 (UPI) -- The crash of an ultralight aircraft in Maryland killed its pilot, police said.
Pilot Michael Malick, 71, died from his injuries in a hospital. He lost control of his aircraft, a Dream Machine 582, immediately after takeoff Saturday morning from a privately owned runway in Federalsburg, Md.
The small, fan-powered aircraft spiraled to the ground after striking a power line, witnesses said.
A parachute was deployed from the aircraft before it struck the ground, police said.
Malick was the only person aboard the aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
