June 2 (UPI) -- The U.S. Geological Survey said a landslide in California added 13 acres of land to the state's central Big Sur coast.

The USGS said the landslide that occurred on May 20 dumped about 200,000 truck loads of land, which covered about a third of a mile on California State Route 1 under 30 feet of dirt -- "if it's still there!"

The highway was closed at the time of the landslide due to an unusually heavy winter and spring rains.

"The landslide that was big enough it could have filled 800 Olympic-sized swimming pools," the USGS said in a Facebook post on Wednesday.

Analysis of the landslide took days to occur due to fog.
