May 18 (UPI) -- First lady Melania Trump will accompany the president on his eight-day, five-stop trip through the Middle East and Europe, her office said Thursday.

Like President Donald Trump, the trip abroad will be her first since her husband's inauguration in January.

The first lady's office did not release a detailed schedule of events, but it did say Melania Trump would participate in "spousal programs" surrounding the NATO and G7 summits the president is attending.

The trip will begin with stops in Saudi Arabia, Israel and the Vatican. The Trumps are scheduled to leave Friday.

"I am very excited," the first lady said. "This will not just be an opportunity to support my husband as he works on important matters of national security and foreign relations, it will also be my honor to visit and speak with women and children from different countries, with different perspectives."
