May 3 (UPI) -- U.S. private job sector creation grew in April but more slowly than in prior months, the ADP Research Institute reported Wednesday.

Private payrolls increased by 177,000 in April, after 175,000 was forecast. The gain is lower than the 255,000 jobs created in March, a figure revised from the 263,000 originally reported.

April hiring in the manufacturing sector rose by 11,000 jobs, following 31,000 jobs created there in April; employment in construction industries fell by 2,000 jobs in April, and the business services industry added 72,000 jobs, the largest increase in three years, the data said.

While the ADP Research Institute, headquartered in Roseland, N.J., is a private company, the report Wednesday shows a gradually strengthening labor market. It is among the motivations for the Federal Reserve, whose officials ended a two-day conference on the strength of the labor market on Wednesday, to proceed with increases in the interest rate in 2017.
