April 17 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump's wife and youngest son will move from New York to Washington in the summer, the White House formally announced. Since Inauguration Day, Donald Trump has resided in the White House, while first lady Melania Trump and their son, Barron Trump, 11, stayed in their home in New York City's Trump Tower. The family previously announced a plan to allow Barron to finish his school year before relocating to Washington.

Barron will be the first boy to live in the White House since John F. Kennedy Jr., who was born weeks prior to his father's 1961 inauguration.
Melania Trump frequently joins the president on his weekend visits to their Florida estate, and has been directly involved in White House arrangements in anticipation of her move, a senior White House aide said.
"Melania Trump bringing and unifying her family under one roof of the White House is a very smart move, and a very traditional move," said White House historian Andrew Och, Fox News reported Saturday. "The fact she was protecting [Barron] before this, by letting him finish out his school year, is not unprecedented. It is just a little bit unusual that they didn't move into the White House immediately after the inauguration."
