March 29 (UPI) -- Samsung on Wednesday gave smartphone enthusiasts a look at its latest Galaxy at an unveiling in New York City.

The company revealed its Galaxy S8 and S8-Plus at the Galaxy UNPACKED 2017 event.

"The Samsung Galaxy S8 ushers in a new era of smartphone design and fantastic new services, opening up new ways to experience the world," Samsung President of Mobile Communications DJ Koh said. "The Galaxy S8 is our testament to regaining your trust by redefining what's possible in safety and marks a new milestone in Samsung's smartphone legacy."

A few features on the S8:

Bixby personal assistant

The S8 is the first Galaxy model to feature Samsung's digital assistant, Bixby. The company says Bixby is different than better-known AI helpers like Apple's Siri and Amazon's Alexa -- with the ability to "see, remind and recommend."

Infinity screen

The S8 features an Infinity screen that wraps around the front edges of the phone, "giving you the most amount of screen in the least amount of space" -- a world first, Samsung says.

Dual-pixel, dual cameras

The S8 features a pair of high-end cameras -- an 8 megapixel autofocus lens on the front, and a 12 megapixel dual-pixel shutter in the rear "for the best low-light, zoom and anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing."

Size and speed

The S8 display varies in size -- 5.8 inches for the regular version and 6.2 inches for the S8-Plus. Both versions of the S8 will feature the industry's first 10 nm processor, to give "heightened speed and efficiency."

The cost of the new smartphone will vary from carrier to carrier.
