Jones is the latest of several Uber executives who have resigned as the company faces sexual discrimination claims and other adverse situations.

March 20 (UPI) -- Jeff Jones, Uber president and second-in-command, is leaving the company after six months, the San Francisco-based ride-hailing company confirmed.

"The beliefs and approach to leadership that have guided my career are inconsistent with what I saw and experienced at Uber," Jones said in a statement.

Jones was a Target Corp. chief marketing officer prior to being named Uber president in August. He ran Uber's operations, marketing and customer support sections as president, and was second-in-command behind CEO Travis Kalanick.

Earlier in March, the troubled company began a search for a new executive to work with Kalanick, who admitted he is in need of managerial help. While such a search could be seen as a threat to Jones' authority, sources cited by the technology website Recode reported that Jones departed because Uber's internal problems were greater than he anticipated.

Since Jones' arrival at Uber, he was flooded with complaints by drivers and customers during a Facebook question-and-answer session. Former Uber engineer Susan Fowler Rigetti, in a blog post, described systemic sexism and sexual harassment at the company, which prompted an internal investigation led by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder.

A social media campaign encourage potential Uber customers to avoid the company after Kalanick joined an economic advisory council of President Donald Trump, a position from which he has since resigned. Also, Uber was accused of profiteering during a brief boycott of New York City airports by taxi drivers protesting Trump's immigration order, and several other Uber executives have resigned.
