NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Donald Trump has tapped Omarosa Manigault, famous for her appearances on The Apprentice, to serve in the White House in a communications director role.
Manigault -- who goes by just her first name, Omarosa -- will work for Trump's Office of Public Liaison in which she will focus on public outreach as an assistant to the president and as the office's director of communications.
Manigault was seen in New York City's Trump Tower on Monday and Trump's transition team on Wednesday said she was among several new hires for the upcoming administration.
President Barack Obama's version of the Office of Public Liaison is called the Office of Public Engagement, which among other duties coordinates public speaking engagements for members of the administration and the executive office of the president. Other duties include focusing on administration transparency and inclusion, as well as listening to the public's concerns.
"Donald Trump wants to connect with Americans," Manigault told Fox News onWednesday. "He wants to hear what their issues are in their communities."
Trump "fired" Manigault several times on The Apprentice. She served as an adviser in Trump's campaign and is known for her fiercely combative, competitive nature.
