CHICAGO, Nov. 20 (UPI) -- Two teenagers are in custody in connection with the shooting death of Jovan Wilson, Congressman Danny Davis' 15-year-old grandson, the Chicago Police Department said.
Wilson was killed in his Englewood home Friday evening.
"2 ppl of interest [juveniles] taken into custody for questioning & now classified as suspects in murder of Rep. Davis grandson Jevon Wilson," tweeted Anthony Guglielmi, the police department's communications director.
"Detectives are continuing interrogations. 1st degree murder charges expected. CPD will release additional info on offenders once charged," read a subsequent tweet.
In an earlier post, Guglielmi categorized the incident as "a dispute among teens over gym shoes that ended in senseless shooting," clarifying that this was not a home invasion as former Speaker of the House and television personality Newt Gingrich had described it.
Guglielmi told USA Today the suspects turned themselves into detectives late Saturday night and were since questioned.
Davis has said other members of Wilson's family were home at the time of the shooting. He described the assailants as a 15-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl.
