HAMMON, Okla., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Police said they shot and killed an Oklahoma fugitive on the run for more than a week after allegedly killing his aunt and uncle, and threatening to intentionally infect people on a hit list with HIV.

Michael Vance was shot and killed by police after also allegedly shooting two police officers. A police officer, whose condition is unknown, was also injured during a firefight with law enforcement when Vance was found.

"The suspect, Michael Vance, was most likely spotted and jumped from his hiding/camp site just north of Hammon," Sheriff Shane Booth posted on the the Ellis County Sheriff's Office's Facebook page around 9 p.m. Sunday. At the time of the post, there had been no sightings of Vance confirmed, but Booth said police believe "he has been at this spot for several days."

Vance had been on the run since Oct. 23 when allegedly nearly decapitated his aunt and uncle, shot two officers in Wellston, Okla., and shot a woman and stole her car. Authorities had asked residents be on the lookout for Vance and the silver Mitsubishi Eclipse he'd stolen.

Police received a tip he might be near the western Oklahoma city of Hammon, eventually finding the campground he apparently had been at but abandoned.

The car was spotted a few hours later and a shootout ensued with Vance, who shot Dewey County Sheriff Clay Sander in the arm before police shot him dead.
