LOS ANGELES, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- A vandal disguised as a construction worker used a pickaxe to destroy Donald Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Video published by the site Deadline Hollywood showed the unidentified man in construction worker gear repeatedly slamming Trump's star as a crowd gathered Tuesday. The man had set up orange and white construction barriers around the site to make it appear he was doing legitimate construction work.

At least one camera crew was at the scene to record the stunt.

The end result was Trump's name and the plaque beneath it entirely destroyed, leaving a divot in the middle of the star.

The Los Angeles Police Department said it does not have any suspects in the case.

The Republican nominee's star has been a target for vandals for months, since he launched his polarizing campaign. Photos of people's pets defecating on the star have been passed on Twitter. Vandals have spray-painted it with a swastika and a mute button.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame, which is a registered national landmark, received a petition signed by tens of thousands online, asking to remove the star. Officials said because it is part of an official historic landmark, stars are not removed once they are installed.
