UPI/CVoter poll: Donald Trump's lead over Hillary Clinton tightens to less than a point

WASHINGTON, Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The UPI/CVoter daily presidential tracking poll released Wednesday shows Donald Trump's lead over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has tightened to less than 1 percentage point.

The online poll shows the Republican nominee carrying 47.83 percent of voters to Clinton's 47.19 percent, a difference of 0.64 percent. "Others" -- defined in the poll as respondents who decline to pick either Clinton or Trump -- made up the remaining 4.98 percent of voters.

Two days ago Trump had a lead of 2.49 percentage points -- the highest in one week. He's lost about 1.5 percentage points -- from 49.38 -- since then, while Clinton gained about a third of a point from 46.89.

On week ago, Clinton had a .17 percentage point advantage.

The seven-day tracking period in Wednesday's release covers Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, when 1,800 registered voters were surveyed. Of them, 1,274 identified themselves as likely voters. All polling was conducted before Tuesday's vice presidential debate.

The UPI/CVoter online tracking poll surveys about 200 people each day, leading to a sample size of roughly 1,400 people during any seven-day span.

Because the poll is conducted online and individuals self-select to participate, a margin of error cannot be calculated. The poll has a credibility interval of 3 percentage points.
