LOS ANGELES, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A second night of protests grew more intense in South Los Angeles Sunday night barely 24 hours after the police shooting of an armed teen.
No arrests were reported on Sunday, as officers chose to stand back as protesters sprayed graffiti on buildings and vandalized local businesses. A car reportedly did donuts and traffic was shut down in an intersection.
The crowd began to leave by 9 p.m. L.A. County sheriff's Sgt. Lyle Raymond said.
Los Angeles police shot a man identified by relatives as 18-year-old Carnell Snell Jr. after a traffic stop Saturday afternoon. Officers believed the car might have been stolen, according to a Los Angeles Police Department news release.
The car stopped at an intersection, and the two passengers jumped out in opposite directions and took off on foot. the 18-year-old was armed, though it's not know when police first spotted the gun. Police chased him to the back of a house where he was shot. Police found the gun at the scene.
The shooting of the teen is the latest police shooting of an African American to draw protests following those in Charlotte, N.C., Tulsa, and El Cajon, Calif.
