RENO, Nev., Sept. 12 (UPI) -- All three people on board a small plane were killed in a crash at Reno-Tahoe International Airport Sunday evening, officials said.

The crash took place just seconds after the piper Cherokee took off. An unknown problem occurred on the plane and it slammed onto cars in the airport parking lot, airport spokesman Brian Kulpin told CNN.

The plane, bound for San Carlos, Calif., crashed in the parking lot about 6:15 p.m. Sunday.

No one in the parking lot was injured, but 15 cars were damaged. About 75 other cars will need to remain in the lot with NTSB taking over the investigation on Monday. The airport remained open after the crash.
