LAUDERHILL, Fla., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Police were investigating the discovery of three bodies inside a South Florida home after neighbors called to check on the residents Monday.

Police found the bodies of a father, his adult son and the father's girlfriend at a Lauderhill, Fla., house after neighbors called 911. Officials described what happened at the home as "heinous," though no details of the scene were released.

Mourners lined the street near the house as news spread to family and members of the victims' church, and were being assisted by officers on the scene.

"This is going to be a long investigation," Lauderhill Police Lt. Greg Solowsky told the Sun-Sentinel. "All of my detectives are out here working 100 percent."

Police received a 911 call just after 2 p.m. Monday to check on the house near Northwest Third Street and 38th Avenue, discovering the bodies inside the house upon arrival.

Detectives said they were unsure how long the deceased had been there, and did not release any details about how they died or if they are searching for suspects, though Solowsky noted there is "no immediate threat to the public."

"We're working hand in hand with the family," Solowsky told reporters. "We don't have a lot of information that we're able to release yet just because we've just started the investigation."

The Broward County Sheriff's Office was called in to assist with the investigation.
