BETTENDORF, Iowa, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A $2 investment won an Iowa grocery store produce associate a softer retirement.

Kevin Reynolds, 56, of Bettendorf, won Lucky for Life in the Iowa Lottery, scoring him $25,000 a year for the rest of his life.

Before learning of his win, his colleagues at the Hy-Vee Supermarket had a little fun with Reynolds, Quad City Times reported.

"They sat me down and they said, 'Is there something you need to tell me?'" Reynolds told state lottery officials. "I said, 'I don't know what you're talking about.' And they said, 'We know you play the lottery. Have you checked your tickets?'"

Reynolds said his boss figured he might be the winner after reviewing store security footage and seeing him purchase a ticket.

"And sure enough, I checked it right there in front of them," Reynolds said. "All I could say was, 'Wow. Wow.'"

The grocery store gets a $500 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket at one of its stores. The winning numbers in Monday's Lucky for Life drawing were: 13-21-27-35-43 and Lucky Ball 14. Reynolds matched the five, but missed the Lucky Ball. He opted for the yearly payout instead of a lump sum.

"I think this is going to ease the burden a little bit for my retirement," Reynolds said. "This will help out," qconline reported.

Reynolds also said he'll still play the lottery occasionally.

"I won't expect to win big again, but I might play once in a while."
