Southern California wildfire contained, others still burning

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The Blue Cut Fire that torched more than 36,000 acres has been fully contained by firefighters, but others are still burning and threatening homes and structures on Tuesday.

The explosive Southern California that destroyed 105 homes has been subdued, but 10,000 firefighters are battling six other blazes burning farther north.

National landmark Hearst Castle remains closed due to the growing threat of the Chimney Fire which has burned to about two miles from the famous mansion built by the late newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst in central California. The fire has burned 37,101 acres and destroyed 53 structures, Cal Fire reports.

The Rey Fire in Santa Barbara County just north of Los Angeles has burned 27,000 acres and is only 30 percent contained.

The Soberanes Fire has been burning for a month and is 60 percent contained. More than 87,000 acres have been scorched north of Big Sur. One person was killed fighting the fire.
