Former President Bill Clinton, delegate roll call on Day Two of Democratic convention

PHILADELPHIA, July 26 (UPI) -- Delegates at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday will begin the process of formalizing Hillary Clinton's status as the party's nominee, as her husband, former President Bill Clinton, takes to the stage as the highlighted speaker.

The state-by-state roll call is expected to underscore Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders' popularity and is being seen by some as carefully choreographed to please Sanders delegates after he urged his supporters Monday to stand behind Clinton.

Clinton Press Secretary Brian Fallon said he expected a roll call vote as "in keeping with our philosophy that every vote should count and that means every delegate being counted on the floor of the convention."

A series of leaked emails that show the party's pro-Hillary Clinton leaning overshadowed the first day of the convention. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., announced her resignation as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee. Almost every mention of Clinton's name on Monday was met with a chorus of boos.

Many are looking to former President Bill Clinton to assuage the anger that permeates the convention and make a case for his wife to take the White House. In 2012, Bill Clinton's popular convention speech for the re-election of President Barack Obama gave him the title "explainer-in-chief." Democrats are hoping he will be able to inject positive energy into the convention during his prime time address.

Under the theme, "A lifetime of fighting for children and families," day two of the convention will also feature mothers who have lost their children to gun violence, including Eric Garner's mother, Gwen Carr, and Trayvon Martin's mother, Sybrina Fulton.
