CLEVELAND, July 20 (UPI) -- Florida Gov. Rick Scott said in the wake of an Islamic State-inspired attack on a gay nightclub in Orlando that Donald Trump is the best presidential candidate to fight terrorism.
"I'm old enough to remember when terrorism was something that happened in other countries. Not today," Scott told the Republican National Convention on Wednesday. "How many more Orlandos, San Bernardinos, Fort Hoods will happen?"
Scott said the attack on Pulse nightclub that killed 49 people caused grief across his state and he criticized President Barack Obama for failing to do enough to confront the terrorist threat.
"I know that some have reservations about my friend Donald Trump. Perhaps he's sometimes not polite. He can be a little rough and for some people he may be too direct," Scott said. "We need a president who is politically incorrect who will tell it like it is. ... We need a president who is not afraid to say 'radical Islamic terrorism.' We need a president who will wipe ISIS off the face of the Earth."
Scott was the first speaker on the third night of the convention.
