TITUSVILLE, Fla., July 17 (UPI) -- Two people, including a 90-year-old patient, were shot dead in a Florida hospital early Sunday.

A suspect is in custody for the killings of the patient and a female nurse in her 40s, Titusville Police Commander Todd Hutchinson said. The suspect has not yet been named, nor a motive established, Space Coast Daily reported.

The gunman reportedly shot the patient and the nurse, who was sitting in the patient's third-floor room in Titusville Parrish Medical Center, about 2 a.m. Police Chief John Lau said. Police suspect it was a random shooting, WFTV reported.

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey called the incident a random shooting because it appears the gunman did not know either victim.

Lau told reporters the hospitals unarmed security guards tackled the suspect, holding him down until police arrived.

"It was a phenomenal team effort during this tragic time," Lau said. "The training with the Parrish medical staff no doubt saved more lives."
