Transgender woman arrested for voyeurism in Idaho

By Shawn Price

BOISE, Idaho, July 15 (UPI) -- An Idaho transgender woman was arrested Tuesday for allegedly filming an 18-year-old woman changing in a Target fitting room, authorities said.

Sean Patrick Smith, 43, who goes by Shauna Smith, had entered a fitting room allegedly in women's clothing and while inside, took photos of the woman in the room next door. The young woman then noticed the iPhone, police said.

"The woman was begging for help as she chased the man out the door," a witness told East Idaho News. "She kept saying she wanted those pictures deleted."

The mother of the young woman confronted Smith who allegedly was wearing a dress and blonde wig, but who quickly left the store and drove away. Police eventually booked Smith into Bonneville County Jail under her legal name of Sean.

The national retail chain won kudos from the LGBT community when it announced in April that fitting rooms were open to transgenders based on the gender identity.

At the same time, the American Family Association also collected 1.4 million signatures since April as part of a boycott petition that argues transgender fitting room and bathroom policies allow sexual predators access to victims.
