WASHINGTON, July 1 (UPI) -- Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign raised $68 million in June, the campaign announced, including $40.5 million that went directly to the Hillary For America campaign fund.

Clinton raised an additional $28 million for a joint account, the Hillary Victory Fund, which she shares with the Democratic National Committee and various state parties.

The campaign said in an email the June haul brings Clinton's overall fundraising total to $288 million for her campaign account and $90 million for the Hillary Victory Fund, with June proving the most lucrative fundraising month of the campaign so far.

Campaign manager Robbie Mook said the candidate starts July with $44 million in the bank, slightly more than the $40 million it had on hand at the start of June.

"Our first month of general election fundraising proved to be the best of the campaign," Mook said. "Thanks to the continued support of nearly 1.6 million people, we have been able to help Democrats build out an organizing infrastructure across the country that will mobilize millions of voters and help elect progressive candidates up and down the ballot."

Donald Trump's campaign has not released its fundraising numbers for June, though at the beginning of the month it revealed it had $1.3 million in the bank, an amount comparable to a campaign for the House of Representatives, rather than the White House.

At the time, Trump dismissed any concerns, saying he had the personal wealth to fund his own campaign, making fundraising totals inconsequential. Since then, he has ramped up his fundraising efforts with a flurry of email solicitations to supporters and big-donor events across the country.
