Federal grand jury weighing criminal charges against Orlando suspect's wife

ORLANDO, Fla., June 14 (UPI) -- The wife of the suspect in the Orlando shootings may face criminal charges after reportedly telling the FBI that she knew about the planned attack, and even drove him to the site of the massacre on a previous occasion.

Noor Salman, Omar Seddique Mateen's wife, who FBI agents said was cooperating with the investigation, told agents she tried to talk him out of the attack.

Salman, 30, told the FBI she was with Mateen when he purchased ammunition and a holster, NBC News reported Tuesday. She also said she once drove him to the club because he wanted to see it in advance, law enforcement sources said.

Late Tuesday, Fox News cited a federal law enforcement source as saying prosecutors have convened a grand jury to consider charges against her.

Salman could ultimately face charges of being an accessory to the murders of 49 people and the attempted murders of 53 others. Other possible charges include failing to report a terrorist attack and lying to federal agents, Fox News' report said.

CBS News reported Tuesday that Salman has been given a polygraph test by the bureau.

Family members said Salman and Mateen had a 3-year-old son and that Salman, of Palestinian origin, moved from Jordan to the United States in 2006. She moved to Rodeo, Calif., in December, WFTV-TV reported.

Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard from Port St. Lucie, Fla., was gunned down by police early Sunday after police say he killed 49 people and injured another 53 in what became the worst mass shooting in American history.

Mateen's first wife, Sitora Yusufiy, told the media he was an unstable person who abused her.
