LAS VEGAS, April 15 (UPI) -- The CinemaCon screening of Now You See Me 2 on Thursday was stopped and the theater evacuated about 15 minutes into the movie due to security concerns.
The film festival attendees were asked to leave the Caesars Palace Colosseum Theater when a "suspicious item" was found. An unattended backpack turned out to be a false alarm.
"The screening was stopped out of complete caution for the safety of the delegates and attendees," said Patrick Corcoran, spokesman for the National Assn. of Theatre Owners. "A potential threat had to be taken seriously. By the time we determined it was not a threat, it was too late to [restart] the movie."
Stars Jesse Eisenberg and Dave Franco, as well as director Jon M. Chu were on the theater's stage discussing the film, and magician and consultant for the film David Copperfield, did a few magic tricks before the screening began.
The festival will otherwise continue as scheduled, CinemaCon officials said.
