NEW YORK, April 14 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has won the Time 100 reader poll, coming in 24 spots ahead of his rival, Hillary Clinton. The poll asked readers who should appear on the magazine's annual list of most influential people in the world.

The Time 100, a separate list chosen by the magazine's editor will be announced April 21. It is composed of world leaders, great minds in science and technology, outstanding figures in arts, and other icons.
Sanders finished with 3.3 percent of the total "yes" votes when the poll closed at midnight Thursday, edging out the South Korean boy band Big Bang's 2.9 percent, Burmese leader Aung San Suu Kyi's 2.2 percent and President Barack Obama's 2 percent. Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, Michelle Obama, Pope Francis and Leonardo DiCaprio round out the top 10.
Clinton, who was on last year's Time 100 list, finished the reader poll with 1 percent of the votes. The only other presidential contender for 2016 on the 2015 list among 31 leaders was former candidate Jeb Bush.
No Republicans were among the top finishers in the reader poll.
Sanders led the reader poll from the start in March. The magazine did not reveal how many people voted in the poll.
