WASHINGTON, April 8 (UPI) -- The Internal Revenue Service announced a new partnership on Wednesday that will allow Americans to pay their taxes in cash at participating 7-Eleven stores.
According to a news release, more than 7,000 7-Eleven stores in 34 states will participate, allowing people to pay their taxes without a bank account or credit card.
"We continue to look for new ways to provide services for our taxpayer," IRS Commissioner John Koskinen said. "Taxpayers have many options to pay their tax bills by direct debit, a check or a credit card, but this provides a new way for people who can only pay their taxes in cash without having to travel to an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center."
The new payment option is the result of a partnership between ACI Worldwide's OfficialPayments.com and the PayNearMe Company.
The IRS encouraged taxpayers who want to pay their taxes in cash to start their process well before the April 15 tax deadline due to PayNearMe's three-step process.
Taxpayers who choose the 7-Eleven cash option will be able to pay a maximum of $1,000 per day and will be charged a $3.99 fee for each payment.
The 7-Eleven store will provide the taxpayer with a receipt, and the payment will post to the bank account within two business days.
