Donald Trump rushed by security on stage at Ohio rally

By Eric DuVall

VANDALIA, Ohio, March 12 (UPI) -- Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was rushed by security on stage after a disturbance in the rowdy crowd at a rally Saturday.

Trump was on stage and surrounded by a large crowd both in front of and behind him. A protester was being escorted out by the police -- an increasingly common scene at Trump rallies -- when a disturbance which was not captured on video broke out behind him. Four security men in suits jumped on stage and surrounded the Republican front-runner as he stood at the podium, where he looked momentarily stunned before regaining his composure.

It was not immediately clear whether the men on stage were Secret Service agents, plain-clothed local police or Trump's private security. Like all presidential candidates, Trump has been granted Secret Service protection during the campaign.

The four men remained on stage a short time before leaving and signaling to Trump it was safe for him to continue his speech.

With the crowd roaring, Trump took nearly a minute to gather himself, looking behind him several times to where the apparent disturbance had taken place. Before returning to his speech, Trump thanked security and quipped: "I was ready for him, but it's much easier when the cops do it. Don't you agree?"
