Donald Trump likens debates to WWE, could skip next one

PALM BEACH, Fla., March 11 (UPI) -- Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump hinted Friday he will skip his party's next planned debate, saying 13 of them should be enough.

For Trump, that number is actually 12, after he skipped a Fox News debate days before the Iowa caucuses -- a state he lost to Sen. Ted Cruz in a upset. Trump's Iowa loss highlights the pros and cons for candidates as they enter debates.

"How many times do you have to give the same answer to the same question?" Trump asked during a press conference Friday in Florida. "The networks want them, I don't think any of the candidates want them at this point."

He also pointed to the tenor of GOP debates, saying many of them have been more like professional wrestling than sober policy discussions. Trump himself, of course, has contributed to the immature rhetoric, repeatedly tossing out schoolyard taunts at his opponents during the debates.

"They've been like Vince McMahon should have put them on, because they were WWE. Too much."

The GOP field is next scheduled to debate in Salt Lake City on March 21.
