Trump camp rejects allegations of reporter's run-in with campaign manager

WASHINGTON, March 10 (UPI) -- A spokesman for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump denied accusations by a female reporter that she was physically accosted by the campaign's manager during a press conference.

Michelle Fields, a reporter for Breitbart, a conservative media site, tweeted she was grabbed on the arm and pulled by Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski during a press conference last week.

Fields said she was attempting to ask Trump a question about affirmative action when she was approached by Lewandowski, who she says grabbed her arm hard and pulled her out from in front of the candidate.

A campaign spokesman responded to the allegations Thursday on Twitter, calling them "entirely false."

"The accusation, which has only been made in the media and never addressed directly with the campaign, is entirely false," Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks said in a statement. "As one of the dozens of individuals present as Mr. Trump exited the press conference I did not witness any encounter. In addition to our staff, which had no knowledge of said situation, not a single camera or reporter of more than 100 in attendance captured the alleged incident."

Fields responded, directing a tweet at Lewandowski and Trump, with a photo of bruises on her arm, and a sarcastic note attached.

A reporter from The Washington Post said he witnessed the incident and described Fields afterward as shaken and teary-eyed.

Breitbart CEO Larry Solov supported Fields and called on Lewandowski to apologize for the incident.

The alleged encounter with Fields happened just days after a photographer for Time magazine covering a Trump rally was choked and slammed onto a table by a Secret Service agent while trying to leave the fenced-off area in which Trump staff told members of the media they had to remain during the event.

The Department of Homeland Security is investigating that incident.
