COLUMBIA, S.C., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Ohio Gov. John Kasich says if he were president, he would consider appointing New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to a cabinet position.

During the Republican presidential town hall in Columbia, S.C., hosted by CNN Thursday night, Kasich was asked whether he would consider another candidate for a cabinet appointment. Kasich responded that he and Christie were "buddies."

Christie suspended his presidential campaign last week after a poor showing in the New Hampshire primaries.

"I like Chris Christie a whole lot," Kasich said. "He's somebody that was a candidate that would be considered."

Not to be accused of picking favorites, Kasich praised all his fellow candidates.

"I think these are all fine people," he said. "They all deserve an awful lot of respect, and I like them all. I just don't want to fight with them."
