CHARLESTON, S.C., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tweeted a picture of a handgun with simply the word "America" in the caption, setting off social media.

Bush, in single digits in the polls for the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina, stopped by a gun manufacturer in Columbia, Ohio, on Tuesday and got a new FNX-45 pistol with his name engraved on it.

He tweeted a photograph of the gun at about 1:30 p.m., quickly drawing a steady stream of mockery across the Twitterverse.

One woman responded, "sadly the gun with Jeb Bush engraved on it is already polling better than he is in South Carolina."

More well-known Twitter users joined the conversation, with Edward Snowden tweeting "Delete your account."

Rep. Mark Takano, D-Calif., tweeted a photo of two men getting married with the caption "America." Actor Wil Wheaton posted a photo of a container of brown water from Flint, Mich., next to a container of clear water from Detroit with the same caption. Others posted their own parodies featuring pet photos, a rat eating pizza and Homer Simpson binge eating in his underwear.
