LAS VEGAS, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A child was injured Friday night when police opened fire on the Las Vegas Strip near the Bellagio hotel in a confrontation with an armed man.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported the unnamed officer missed his target, who prompted suspicion when he was observed waving a gun in the air and pointing it at people. The allegedly armed man is being held at Clark County Detention Center.

Metropolitan Police Department Captain Matt McCarthy said at least two people were grazed by bullets during the shooting.

An unidentified juvenile was taken to the University Medical Center and later released. The other bystander grazed by a bullet required no medical attention, according to KVVU-TV.
