Stage topples over presidential candidate Carly Fiorina

SAN ANTONIO, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina narrowly avoided a large bump on the head after part of the stage backdrop fell at an event in San Antonio.

Fiorina was addressing the National Association of Women Business Owners on Sunday when the frame holding up a large curtain backdrop buckled. Cloth and frame pipes fell to the ground as other women that were on stage with Fiorina and a photographer attempted to cover the candidate with their hands.

Shortly after, Fiorina returned to the podium and asked if everyone was OK. A member of the crowd yelled out "Trump!" to which Fiorina insinuating that the backdrop fiasco could have been orchestrated by Trump, Hillary or "lots of [other] people."

Fiorina spokeswoman Sarah Isgur Flores told CNN there were no injuries. The event was being held at the Marriott Rivercenter in San Antonio, which has not released any comment on the incident.

In a Bloomberg Politics poll released last week, 33 percent of Americans said they could envision Fiorina, former CEO of Hewlett-Packard, as president of the country. She trailed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by one percent but was above Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, who came in at 30 percent.

The poll found former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was viewed as most presidential among Republicans by Americans with 40 percent.
